English chemist, Rosalind Franklin sits right at the very heart of the story of DNA, with her groundbreaking research being central to the discovery of what makes us who we are.
Her legacy has now been celebrated for the very first time with the release of this BRAND NEW UK 50p coin.
This innovative reverse design by Royal Mint graphic designer, David Knapton pays tribute to this great British scientist and includes ‘Photograph 51’ – the X-ray diffraction image taken by Franklin which was essential for developing a model of DNA.
What’s more, this new 50p coin has been developed in partnership with King’s College London, where Franklin’s groundbreaking research was carried out.
